Ken Giller

Ken Giller is Professor of Plant Production Systems within WaCASA (the Wageningen Centre for Agroecology 
and Systems Analysis) at Wageningen University. Ken’s research has focused on smallholder farming systems in sub‐Saharan Africa, in particular on problems of soil fertility and the role of nitrogen fixation in tropical legumes, with emphasis on the temporal and spatial dynamics of resources within crop/livestock farming systems. He leads the large-scale initiatives N2Africa (Putting Nitrogen Fixation to Work for Smallholder Farmers in Africa – www.N2Africa.org) and NUANCES (www.AfricaNUANCES.nl). Ken’s current focus is on the future of farming as it relates to sustainable intensification, farm size and the aging of farmers. He is a member of Unilever’s Sustainable Sourcing Advisory Board since 2012 and is Senior Fellow at UNEP World Conservation Monitoring Centre, Cambridge, UK. Ken joined Wageningen University in 2001 after holding professorships at Wye College, University of London, and the University of Zimbabwe.
